My Yamaha Pacifica 721 guitar
I'd like tell you about my Yamaha Pacifica guitars. I own four. The oldest is a 721 which I bought new in 1992 for £299. I had been leant an Ibanez JS1 (Joe Satriani model) by my friend and I wanted a guitar like that but couldn't afford that model. The 721 had a Floyd Rose bridge and nice pickup arrangement, And I could afford it! It became my main guitar for a long time after that. More recently I became a big fan of Andy Timmons and lusted after his signature Ibanez guitar. Unfortunately I couldn't afford that either! But. I had the my Pacifica. Step in Andy, a local guitar luthier/tech. I got him to replace the pickups with A.T's configuration: Dimarzio cruisers in neck and centre positions and AT1 in the bridge position. New black scratchguard. Replacement Gotoh Floyd style bridge. New pots, and a treble bleed capacitor. When it was I done I loved it except for one thing. The AT1 was a bit too toppy for me so I got Andy to put a switchable (push/pull) tone switch in for me to cut some of the high end out, but still able to access full tone if required. It was complete! It's flexible. Good Stratty sounds (though the cruisers are actually humbuckers), and power from the AT1. Looks good too!
I'll tell you about the others some time soon.
